   यह एक विचित्र स्थिति है। अमेरिकी सरकार जिसका कि पिछ्ली दो शताब्दियों का मानवाधिकार को आगे बढाने और तानाशाहों को पराजित करने का रिकार्ड रहा है उसे संयुक्त राष्ट्र संघ पर निर्भर होना पडेगा? अब अमेरिका के निर्वाचित नेताओं को एक किनारे लगा दिया जायेगा और मिले जुले तानाशाह अमेरिका की सुरक्षा को प्रभावित करने वाले निर्णय लेंगे?

   ताहा का तर्क है कि कुरान के कुछ नियम केवल मदीना के लिए थे न कि अन्य क्षेत्रों के लिए . उनकी आशा थी कि मुसलमान इन नियमों को एक किनारे रख देंगें और मक्का के सामान्य नियमों के साथ जीवन जियेंगे. यदि ताहा के विचार को स्वीकार किया जाए तो शरीयत का बहुत बडा भाग लुप्त हो जायेगा ,जिसमें लूट , चोरी और महिलाओं से संबंधित अनेक कालबाह्य नियम शामिल हैं. उनके बाद मुसलमान निश्चित ही आधुनिक हो सकते हैं .हालांकि ताहा द्वारा प्रस्तावित योजना के अनुसार मुसलमानों ने बड़े स्तर पर इस दिशा में कार्य आरंभ नहीं किया है लेकिन कुछ शुरुआत अवश्य हुई है.
